This was the first-annual Empty Bowls event for Micah’s Backpack. The event began at 11 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m.

Patrons gained access to the event with a purchased ticket which helps fight childhood hunger in the community. The donation also came with a handmade or hand-painted bowl filled with homemade soup from participating Jacksonville restaurants.

The Intracoastal office has been involved with Micah’s Backpack since 2017. The organization originally began in 2015 in Jacksonville and in 2005 in Blacksburg, VA, according to event leader and President Bonnie Vanderberg.

“So much fun working beside old and new friends, all working together for the children. Thanks Dr. Dave for the great soups we all enjoyed! [It was] extra special to acknowledge Bonnie's birthday that morning. What an inspiring leader!” said Jeanne Imhoff, Watson Intracoastal REALTOR®, and volunteer.

Micah’s Backpack, Jacksonville’s mission is to feed food-insecure children on the weekend. Every Thursday organization volunteers pack food and deliver it to schools on Friday to be sent home with the students in need.

“Our office has worked with Micah’s Backpack for more than three years, and we love to see the difference they are making for the kids in the Arlington area,” said Watson Intracoastal VP/Managing Broker Sandi Wagner. “They are currently packing for 159 elementary students each week and will soon be packing for more! It has been a great experience for all of us.”

The event was a huge success, with over $4,000 raised to help feed 200 kids in 2020, according to a post-event Facebook post by Micah’s Backpack, Jacksonville’s page.
