According to the CDC, one in four women and one in seven men will experience physical violence by their intimate partner at some point during their lifetimes. This harrowing statistic remains a cause against which our REALTORS® in the Watson Hodges office fight.
On March 27, three of our Hodges REALTORS®, Heidi Rezex, Holly Van cleave, and Omarosa Newman joined together to walk in the Hubbard House’s Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk called Stand Up and Stride.
According to the Hubbard House site, the event is held each year to raise awareness of domestic violence and raise funds to ensure help is available when survivors and their children need help the very most. This was the organization’s 12th annual walk.
Watson associate Omarosa Newman says this event hit so close to home, so she wanted to be a part of the cause.
“I recently lost my 23-year-old cousin, Taryn Simmons, last year to domestic violence,” said Newman. “For both me and my mother, we participated in this year’s Hubbard House walk as a way to honor Taryn and raise money to support these victims.”

The event began bright and early downtown at the Jacksonville Courthouse at 9:00 AM with a one-mile walking route around the city. Each year, event coordinators strive to provide a fun atmosphere, with a Family Fun Zone for kids and a local DJ to play music that can be heard down the block! Registration is free and donations are optional, but foundational to keeping the lights on and doors open to the Hubbard House shelter. For more information or to donate, go to hubbardhouse.org or visit the Hubbard House Facebook page.
