One of the key core values of Watson Realty Corp. is that of Inspiration. We aim to inspire our customers and our communities by making dreams come true.
For an estimated 13 million children, that dream is a simple one: to live their life without worrying where their next meal will come from. Each year, these nearly 13 million children go hungry or are living in food insecure homes, and this number has only risen after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, closing schools and leaving many children who depend upon school meals going hungry.
One of our newest associates, Teresa Robertson, knows this is a cause worth dedicating to. This year she began participating in the Feed the Need of Putnam County, a local non-profit that provides nourishing meals over the weekend to more than 800 children in need. The organization partners with individuals, churches and organizations to meet the need in their community and fight to end hunger in Putnam and surrounding areas. Teresa says she initially responded to a request for help on Facebook several months back to help sort through food donations.
“It's been game on ever since – when they put the call out, I make the time to go. Children should never feel hungry, unloved or go without the basic essentials,” said Robertson.
Teresa also became a Rotary Club member of Interlachen. The club sponsors local Putnam schools with scholarships and a program titled 'Happy Soles' where brand-new shoes are collected and distributed in the beginning of a new school year to three elementary schools in the area.
“Both organizations captured my attention and pulled at my heart strings because the primary focus is in helping children,” said Robertson.
And Teresa considers volunteering to help children a great passion.
“Growing up in the seventies, my parents struggled to make sure all four of us had what we needed and focused on providing those essentials to us,” said Robertson. “My family had the support of family, close friends and our church, and that made a difference. Now that I am fortunate enough to be involved in the community in which I live and work, this is my opportunity to give back and make a difference for others.”
“She [Teresa] immediately embraced community spirit after beginning to work in our local area,” said Arant.
