Southside Office Learns About Portability and Other Exciting Endeavors!

Southside associates recently enjoyed a visit from Jerry Holland, property appraiser with Duval County, where they learned about portability – an assessment difference transfer which allows eligible Florida homeowners to transfer their Save Our Homes (SOH) assessment limitation from their old home to a new one, hence lowering the assessed value for the new home.

Present were Anil Mali, Cindy DeOsca, Millie Kanyar, Tracy Collins, and Charisma Bythwood who also received a copy of the 2021 Annual Report, which indicates the total market value in 2021 was $3.12 trillion. The report also shared that there was a total of 52,232 total real estate transactions in Duval County and shared details on the residential property facts and figures.

Although commercial properties make up 11% of the real estate parcels in the county, they account for 40% of the taxable value of real estate property. There are several exemptions for which residential customers could qualify including deployed service members, blindness exemption, and disability exemption, to name a few. The tax liens total for 2021 was $1,557,700.00; the lowest lien was $88.04 and the highest was $102,938.10. Agents were also reminded to encourage their customers to file for homestead exemption.

The role of Jerry Holland as the Duval County Property Appraiser is to help agents and homeowners understand how to determine their property values. If you’re interested in having Jerry speak with your associates, you may request a speaking engagement here.
